Penicuik Hunter's Lass 2016 - Kerry Wilson

I was born in Edinburgh on the 3rd of July 1972 to Carol and Ian and was raised in Roslin with my brother Pete and my sister Nicki until my parents separated. I attended Roslin primary school and then Beeslack High School after moving to Penicuik at the age of 14 with my mum and stepdad, Malcolm.

After leaving school I trained as a Registered General Nurse at West Lothian College of Nursing and midwifery. During this time I married my first husband Paul, and had two sons, Conor and Kieran. We moved to Germany for several years due to a forces posting and I had my first nursing job as the families practice nurse in the army medical centre. My third son Ryan was born in Germany and we returned to Penicuik in 1997 and our two daughters, Erin and Roisin completed the family.

I continued to work throughout this time in both hospital and community roles until I became full-time carer to Roisin who was born with 1p36 deletion syndrome, a rare genetic condition causing many learning and health challenges.

I recently remarried and my husband Gordon is a Peebles Cornet from 1996 so took great pleasure in introducing me to the joys of horses and common riding festivities which I enjoy in my chill time. I also enjoy cooking and baking, particularly wedding and novelty cakes which I love making for family, friends and local good causes.

Having seen how much my husband has enjoyed being involved over the years I am delighted and humbled to be chosen as Hunterís Lass 2016 alongside William and am looking forward to what will be an exciting and life changing time. I will represent Penicuik, my home town, with pride and honour throughout the Borders towns and canít wait for it all to begin!
